Applications
Our vertical turbine pumps deliver consistent performance from the deepest sources.
The multistage vertical turbine pump is normally designed to operate in boreholes, wells, or deep sumps. It is a specialized type of centrifugal pump designed to produce high pressure by stacking multiple impeller stages on a single vertical shaft.
Unlike horizontal split pumps, multistage vertical turbine pump is installed vertically, with the motor typically mounted at the top. They are renowned for their efficiency in deep well applications and high-head, low-to-medium flow rate services.
Comparison with Submersible Pumps: A VTP has a dry-pit motor above ground, allowing for easier maintenance and cooling. A submersible pump has a wet-pit motor attached directly to the pump and submerged, which can be more compact but requires pulling the entire unit for service.
Features
1. Vertical Orientation
The pump and motor are arranged in a vertical line. This saves significant floor space compared to horizontal pumps.
2. Multistage Design
Contains multiple impeller and diffuser (bowl) stages stacked in series. Each impeller increases the fluid's pressure incrementally. The total discharge pressure is the sum of the pressure boosts from each stage.
3. Line-Shaft
Power is transmitted from a motor located above ground to the submerged pump bowls via a long, vertical rotating shaft (the "line shaft").
4. Turbine Pump
Refers to the pump section's operating principle, where impellers (like a turbine in reverse) and stationary diffuser efficiently convert velocity into pressure.
In summary, the Multistage Vertical Turbine Pump provides the ultimate in reliability and ease of installation in applications including condenser water, chilled water, water transfer, pressure boosting and water supply. They are the solutions for heavy-duty, high-head pumping applications.
